On Friday night, the San Jose Earthquakes held the Colorado Rapids off the scoreboard until a controversial penalty call was given by referee Edvin Jurisevic that allowed Rapids forward Conor Casey to score and allowed the match to finish in a 1-1 draw. Tonight, the Earthquakes will get their chance at revenge as they head to Colorado in the final part of this home at home series with the Rapids (6:30PM PST, TV: MLS Direct Kick, Radio, KDOW 1220).
"We're gonna have a little extra chip on our shoulders going into the game on Wednesday because we've got something to prove", said Earthquakes forward Ryan Johnson after Friday's match. In addition to fighting for pride, San Jose will also have each team with realistic playoff aspirations in their corner tonight as they look to overtake the Rapids who have moved into a tie for the 2nd MLS Wild Card spot.
The role of spoiler will not be easy however as the Quakes come into tonight's match losing three regular starters as Cornell Glen has been ruled out with a right knee sprain, Shea Salinas is doubtful with a hamstring injury while Arturo Alvarez is also questionable. In their place expect a starting side that includes Chris Wondolowski in place of Glen, rookie sensation Quincy Amarikwa for Salinas and Ryan Johnson to remain in the starting XI for Alvarez.
The Rapids however will be boosted by the return of Pablo Masteroni who has now finished his three game suspension for a previous charge. Although the Rapids will have much more to play for in this match and as well as the home crowd, expect Yallop's side to come out energized after the penalty call decided the last match at Estadio Buck Shaw.
