According to Grant Wahl and Sports Illustrated, US national team member Landon Donovan, has tested positive for the infamous H1N1 virus. The US National Team star was tested after appearing ill during the team's pre match training game in Miami, this did not stop the United States star from playing a full 90 minutes at Azteca on Wednesday afternoon.
"I haven't felt that way in a game in a long time," Donovan told Wahl about 2-1 loss to Mexico on Wednesday. "During the game and even after the game I thought maybe it was the altitude, the heat, whatever. But even so I've never felt that bad. The last time I was there (at Azteca) I didn't feel that bad. I just felt lethargic, slow. I didn't feel normal."
The news does provide some explanation for why the US midfielder turned in a very poor performance despite his recent spell of good form. It is also incredibly unfortunate for a player who had been playing so well for the LA Galaxy and could have long lasting playoff implications for their playoff run.
