This match is vital for both sides as they try to hold on to slim playoff hopes going into the final stretches of the season. As always, stay r BSB will provide you will all the coverage of this vital clash.
Pre Game: The Starting lineups are in.
Kansas City: GK: Kevin Hartman, DEF: Lance Watson, Jimmy Conrad (captain), Rauwshawn McKenzie, Michael Harrington, MID: Santiago Hirsig, Herculez Gomez, Jack Jewsbury, Claudio Lopez, FWD: Davy Arnaud, Josh Wolff
San Jose: GK: Joe Cannon, DEF: Chris Leitch, Josh Hernandez, Brandon McDonald, Bobby Convey, MID: Shea Salinas, Ramiro Corrales (captain), Andre Luiz, Darren Huckerby, FWD: Cornell Glen, Arturo Alvarez
As BSB reported last night, Ramon Sanchez and Ryan Johnson have been dropped from the line up and Arturo Alvarez returns to the starting line up after an injury absence.
-KICK OFF!
- Already a save on a Glen brace. The Quakes are looking alive at the start of the game tonight.
-Dubious foul on Cornell Glen takes away a Quakes goal after Glen is ruled to have fouled Hartman after Hartman has the ball stolen from from him by Glen is rued to have been pushed to the ground.
-SAVE QUAKES! Joe Cannon comes up big on a Josh Wolff which was set up by a beautiful pass by Claudio Lopez.
- A beautiful cross is ruled offside for the Quakes. Yallop's side is clearly looking to push the envelope on this match.
-OFF THE POST! Cornell Glen hits it just after the post after lobbing it over Kevin Hartman. The play was set up by Darren Huckerby's run at Hartman who appeared to be very slow to play the ball in the box. This is the second time that Hartman has nearly gotten his club in major trouble.
-SAVE CANNON- Joe Cannon comes up big on a Josh Wolff shot after the ball falls to Wolff after a Kansas City free kick.
-OFFSIDES QUAKES - Cornell Glen is ruled offside after a receiving the ball from a Kansas City defender. However, Commotion is king as a member of the San Jose Earthquakes training staff is ejected for arguing the call.
- FOUL: Another call on San Jose as Cornell Glen is ruled to have played the ball with his arm after a very promising cross in from Chris Leitch. Glenn has looked very promising so far against the Kansas City defense.
- Lull in the match as the Kansas City defense has looked ot have rebounded after some early jitters.
-FANTASTIC RUN BY HUCKERBY who catches the but the cross can not e collected by Cornell Glen. The ball bounces back to Shea Salinas but is deflected for a Quakes corner. Despite the fact that KC is looking to clamp on Huckerby with two defenders it appears to no avail as the Englishman looks on tonight
-Free Kick by Convey after a Wizards foul just outside the box.
-Convey plays the ball right back to Shea Salinas who fires the ball just over the corner. Great effort by the Quakes so far in this match.
-Wizards free kick. The free kick goes into the box and is nearly cleared by a Quake defender but the ball falls to Davy Arnaud who forces Cannon to make a save after a laser of a shot.
-BREAK AWAY BY ALVAREZ after a beautiful throughball from Cornell Glen. Alvarez wastes the opportunity however and the shot goes wide of Hartman's net. Another great opportunity for the Quakes to get on the board but Alvarez looked to hold the ball up which allowed for a Wizards defender to track back and force Arturo to make a bad shot.
-Wizards free kick near the corner flag after a Quakes foul on Claudio Lopez.
-SAVE CANNON! The ball takes a bad bounce after the free kick and bounces over the mass of players before forcing Joe Cannon to make a jumping save over Wizards defender Jimmy Conrad who was looking for the tap in.
- Joe Cannon clears the ball just outside the box after a Wizards throughball nearly meets its target on the opposite side of the field. Kansas City is looking to try and get some momentum in this match after letting San Jose push the issue.
-SAVE CANNON!!! Joe comes up big on a save on Davy Arnaud. Arnaud received yet another through ball from his midfield and was was very unlucky to put one away on the San Jose keeper.
-QUAKES SUB: Quincy Amarikwa enters the game for Cornell Glen. Glen appeared to have pulled a hamstring on the last play and has been pulled from the match. This is very disheartening news for the Quakes as Glen has been very dangerous so far. Interesting Choice for Yallop to bring on Amarikwa rather than Johnson as he looks to exploit Quincy's speed on a slower KC back line.
-A hard tackle on Brandon McDonald sees the defender hit the ground. McDonald is clearly favoring his left leg but looks to stay in the match at least for the duration of the half.
-As the half winds down neither team looks to be creating any real sustained attacks on goal. Kansas City and San Jose are clearly relying on long balls to attempt to reach the forward attackers rather than building up the attack through the midfield.
- Three minutes of stoppage time called as the Wizards earn the corner.
+1- The Corner goes straight to Josh Wolff who shoots the ball over the net. Horrible shot by the US international in what was a golden scoring opportunity.
+2-COUNTER BY Kansas City. Arnaud again on the right side crosses the ball down the middle but due to some great defending by Jason Hernandez to hold up Josh Wolff, the cross ends up in a goal kick.
HALFTIME- Halftime at Estadio Buck Shaw with the score tied 0-0. Frank Yallop can not be pleased as the Quakes were clearly the aggressors in that half but was unable to capitalize and along with the injury to Cornell Glen, a truly poor half for San Jose. In addition, the team is clearly allowing the Kansas City counter attack effect them as KC is getting many more chances at net due to their stingy counter. Look for the inclusion of Ryan Johnson in the second half to bring on a finishing touch for San Jose.
-KICK off for the second half.
-A Wizards chance turns into a Quakes Corner after a Beautiful Huckerby attack. However, the corner goes begging as the Wizards clear.
-Wizards Corner
-The corner is cleared by the Quakes but the Wizards regain possession.
- NEAR MISS by Davy Arnaud as his shot goes wide nearly past a diving Joe Cannon.
- QUAKES YELLOW CARD: A foul by Jason Hernandez results in a yellow card for the Quakes defender.'
- Wizards corner kick. The kick is nearly cleared by the Quakes but falls straight to the Wizards defense. This sustained possession results in a shot at goal by former America star Claudio Lopez. However, Jason Hernandez is the hero as he clears it away before it could reach a Wizards attacker.
- Quakes free kick after Jimmy Conrad brings down Amarikwa just outside the box. Golden opportunity for San Jose.
-Alvarez takes the kick but the ball goes flying well above Hartman's net. Wasted opportunity there for San Jose
-Great opportunity after another Huckerby run. However, the Quakes are unable to get a shot off as the Wizards clear the ball.
A Quakes's corner is earned after a very dangerous Alvarez shot at goal but the corner is wasted as it is too high and ends up a throw in for Kansas City.
-Sustained Quakes pressure results in another shot at goal for Arturo Alvarez but the shot ends up horribly wide. The Quakes are clearly throwing all they can at the KC net looking for that goal but fso far have come up unlucky.
- A Quakes foul results in a KC throw in just outside the corner flag. The ball is cleared for a corner for Kansas City. Ryan Johnson getting ready to come on.
-QUAKES SUB: Ryan Johnson enters the match for Darren Huckerby
- QUAKES SAVE! The Wizards corner goes just off and rseults in a KC throw in. The ball falls advantageously to Arnaud who puts the ball right in the safe hands of Joe Cannon.
-FREE KICK-Foul on Amarikwa results in a Quakes free kick. The free kick goes begging however as the Wizards clear
- A near chance for Amarikwa is stopped by a KC defense which manages to block the young forward's shot.
-Quakes CORNER: A beautiful pass from Johnson to Quincy who steps it off to Alvarez results in a Quakes corner.
- The corner goes unfulfilled as a header by Hernandez goes just over the cross bar and doesn't trouble the Kansas City keeper.
- Great defense by Andre Luiz after Wizards midfielder Santagio Hirsig nearly gets a one on one with Joe Cannon. The former Brazilian international is able to track back and steal the ball before a shot is registered.
-GREAT TURN BY QUINCY AMARIKWA TOWARDS GOAL! but the shot is wildly off target. The Quakes have had some great opportunities towards the net but have been unable to find the back of Kevin Hartman's net.
- WIZARDS SUB: Matt Besler enters the match for Rauwshawn McKenzie as the Wizards look to shore up their defense after a Quakes onslaught.
-OFFSIDES QUAKES: Arturo Alvarez is judged to be offside after a beautiful pass from the Quakes' midfield. Very unlucky there.
-LONG BALL from Joe Cannon to a waiting Ryan Johnson who receives the ball on a deflection off a Kansas City defender. However, the San Jose forward is judged to be offside.
-YELLOW CARD QUAKES: Arturo Alvarez is booked for dissent after Kansas City earns possession after it appears the ball went off at a Wizards player.
-QUAKES SUB: Chris Wondolowski comes on for Chris Leitch. The Quakes know the magnitude of this match and will call upon Wondolwski to add some attacking process at the Wizards net.
-San Jose has been very unlucky in this match as we approach the final 5 minutes. Seemingly all the calls at the end lines have gone against the Quakes despite some disagreement.
- WIZARDS FREE KICK- A foul on Hirsig sets the Wizards up with a dangerous free kick but the effort falls right to Joe Cannon.
-QUAKES SAVE Joe Cannon has come up big again after another Wizards shot at goal.
- WIZARDS YELLOW CARD: Davy Arnaud gets booked on a nasty challenge on Amarikwa and sets up a dangerous Quakes free kick just outside the box
-Convey's effort sails above the bar as the Quakes waste yet another opportunity at goal.
-QUAKES SHOT! Ryan Johnson gets a golden opportunity at goal but the shot goes far wide. It appears that Bobby Convey has been injured on the play as he is slow to get up and is obviously limping.
- WIZARDS SUB- Adam Cristman comes on for Claudio Lopez who is then booked for time wasting.
- WIZARDS YELLOW CARD: Matt Bisler booked for another harsh challenge on the Quakes.
- 4 minutes of stoppage time. If either team can get the victory, you'll have to say their seasons are still alive.
-A Wizards rush up the left side results in nothing as Joe Cannon scoops up the ball.
-EARTHQUAKES GOAL!!!!!!!!!!!! CHRIS WONDOLOWSKI HITS IN PAST KEVIN HARTMAN. Wondo gets the beautiful pass from the captain Ramiro Corrles
-Wizards free kick: The kick goes just outside the post and nearly dangerous for Joe Cannon
- FINAL! The Quakes WIN 1-0!
FINAL: Wondolowski comes up big as the Quakes get a stoppage time victory. San Jose looked dangerous all night and truly earned this result. However, Bobby Convey appears to be injured. Check back with BSB as we provide you the post game analysis and interviews.
